RCSS on International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

 

 

On 26 June 2016, RCSS holds the ceremony of the International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking at its headquarters, Loi Tai Leng. There were 1,788 people participating in the ceremony. 

RCSS also participated in the ceremony held by the government in Taunggyi. In addition to these, RCSS held the ceremonies in other parts of Shan State. To mark the occasion, Central Executive Committee of RCSS released the following statement.

Marking the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26 June 2016, the Restoration Council of Shan State issues the following statement:

  1. Since the problems of narcotic drugs are affecting our society everywhere, in order to prevent our children and young people from abusing drugs and becoming drug addicts, people everywhere should find ways to protect their respective communities and places, such as families, villages/quarters, village tracts and townships.
  2. Even though the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) has sought the cooperation of the Tatmataw (Burmese military) and the UNODC in the drug eradication efforts, it has yet to be implemented.
  3. During 2015-2016, RCSS on its own has done the following work:

3.1. Destruction of 0.7 viss (1 viss = 1.6 kg) of opium, 0.5 kg of heroin and 279758 tablets of methamphetamine and detaining of 42 drug dealers.

3.2. Rehabilitation of narcotic drug addicts: 311 male and 11 female, totaling 322 persons.

Launching of awareness raising activities about the dangers of narcotic drugs, among the people and soldiers in the areas under RCSS control, 91 times.
